Paul McCartney Wins Ultimate Legend Award
A one-off gong was given to the forefather of Liverpool music. Sir Paul McCartney has collected his Ultimate Legend Award from fellow legend Bono at the MTV Europe Music Awards 2008.
The Beatles star - who practically invented pop music well over 40 years ago - was at the Liverpool Echo Arena for our show.
Presenting the prize, U2 frontman Bono introduced Macca saying, “You call him Sir, I call him Lord, Saint… Paul McCartney!”
The Beatles were undoubtedly the most influential band in history and the founders of the Liverpool music scene…one of the main reasons we chose to have our epic show there!

It’s her second prize of the night - she must be a happy girl. Britney Spears has won one of the biggest prizes at the MTV Europe Music Awards - Act of 2008! The singer seems very much back on track after a bit of an, er, interesting year. She’s currently prepping her big comeback so couldn’t make it to our big night but the ‘Womanizer’ singer sent a message thanking her fans.

We asked hundreds of top acts who they have loved in 2008… and they picked Weezy. Lil’ Wayne has had his place among rap royalty confirmed after being awarded the Artists Choice award at the MTV Europe Music Awards 2008.
The controversial hip hop star has sold millions, set records and guested with the best rappers around this year - and now he’s been honoured by us. Sadly the ‘Lollipop’ rapper couldn’t make it to Liverpool - but sent a video. In it he told the crowd and millions around the world: “There are some things money can’t buy – like respect from the fans and other artists – so thank you!”
