3-DIMENSIONAL EMA 09 ONLINE OFFERING BROADENED TO INCLUDE FACEBOOK ACTIVITY, TWITTER ACTIVITY AND HABBO PARTNERSHIP
www.mtvema.com
London, Tuesday 6 October 2009: Fall Out Boy’s eclectic bassist and lyricist, Pete Wentz, has been confirmed as host of the 2009 MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs) digital show "2009 EMA: All Access", the news was announced today by MTV International (MTVNI), owned by Viacom Inc (NYSE: VIA, VIA:B). "2009 EMA: All Access" will be hosted on www.mtvema.com and will be available simultaneous to the MTV Europe Music Awards TV broadcast, which will be aired live on MTV from the 02 World, Berlin on Thursday 5 November at 9pm CET. The 2009 EMAs are sponsored by Sony Ericsson, MTV Games / Harmonix’s "The Beatles Rock Band" and Dell.
"2009 EMA: All Access" will give MTV’s online audiences an exclusive opportunity to hang out with Pete as he spends time with EMA artists – including performers Green Day, Leona Lewis and Tokio Hotel and host Katy Perry - in an exclusive bar backstage just before they take to the stage. More EMA performers and presenters will be announced shortly.
The MTV Europe Music Awards digital activity will also enable MTV fans to be part of the glittering Red Carpet as the artists arrive – and excitement builds – for the prestigious live music event. All of the action, which will also feature Pete Wentz’s arrival, will be played out exclusively on www.mtvema.com in a live online show entitled, "2009 EMA: Red Carpet Show" which will be available from 8-9pm CET on Thursday 5 November.
Pete Wentz, who is fresh from his successful hosting debut at the recent Vodafone MTV Australia Awards, is bassist and lyricist for US rock band Fall Out Boy. The band has achieved huge global success and their fifth studio album, "Folie à Deux", is currently riding high on the charts, both in the US and Europe. Pete is married to singer Ashlee Simpson and, similar to "2009 EMA: All Access", also co-owns a nightclub "Angels and Kings" with fellow members of Fall Out Boy.
www.mtvema.com, the principle access point for all information on the EMAs, is available in 18 languages across 28 territories via a single URL. In addition to giving users the opportunity to vote, watch highlights from previous EMAs and surf for artist information, for the first time ever, Twitter has been deeply integrated into this year’s EMA digital media campaign with show gossip, news and updates being tweeted both in advance of the event and long after the show closes.
This year, MTV is also partnering with Habbo, the world’s largest virtual world and online community for teens. The collaboration includes the launch of an EMA-themed virtual space within Habbo communities which will give Habbo fans the opportunity to visit the EMA space with their friends, vote for their favourite artists, and take part in competitions in the hope of winning a virtual EMA award.
A key objective of Facebook, Habbo and Twitter activity will be to encourage viewer interaction on www.mtvema.com, which last year generated more than 4 million unique visitors. In addition, voting, artist and category information, profiles and galleries will also be available via free EMA WAP activity – which, in 2008, achieved a 165% year-on-year increase in downloads.
Commented Gary Ellis, VP, Digital Media (Content & Operations), MTV Networks International: "MTV has long been committed to leveraging digital technology to deliver complementary EMA experiences to music fans. By aligning with our audiences' own consumption of media, we are not only able to give users a truly 'behind-the-scenes' perspective on MTV's premier live music event, but, by harnessing social media platforms we are also able to bring the EMAs to an even broader range of demographics whilst promoting back into the TV environment."
Post EMAs, www.mtvema.com will feature performance and backstage photography, news on the winners and losers and behind the scenes gossip.
Both the "2009 EMA: All Access" and the "2009 EMA: Red Carpet Show" will be shot in an entirely tapeless environment using production values at the forefront of new technology including full 1080i uncompressed HD workflow and virtual encoding cloud to stream over 3 hours of live content.
